The Measure of Love:                                                                                                       vv. 31-34

When he was gone, Jesus said, Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him. 32If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.

33My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.

34A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

 

1.         His love is incomparable .                                                 Ephesians 3:17-19

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledgeCthat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The Meaning of Love:                                                                                                               v. 35

1.         Loving one another reflects His love.                                             vv. 34-35

 

2.         Loving one another completes the law.                                  Romans 13:8-9

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. 9The commandments, Do not commit adultery,Do not murder,Do not steal,Do not covet, and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: Love your neighbor as yourself.

 

3.         Loving one another demonstrates God=s love.                          1 John 4:12

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

 

 

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has the eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.

The Manifestation of Love:                                                                                              vv. 36-38

Simon Peter asked him, Lord, where are you going? Jesus replied, Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.

37Peter asked, Lord, why can”t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.

38 Then Jesus answered, Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!

 

1.         Unqualified .                                                                              1 Peter 1:22

 

2.         Unselfish .                                                                               1 John 4:7-11

 

3.         Unconditional .                                                                      1 John 3:23-24
