He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
Pentecost is the day we celebrate the birthday of the church. Just over 2,000 years ago, 120 ordinary people gathered in the Upper Room and the Spirit of God fell upon them, according to Acts chapter two.
The Arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost: John 15:26-27
“When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. 27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.”
1. A Divine Person . John 16:7
“But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”
2. A fulfillment of a Divine promise . John 14:16
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you foreverÑ”
3. A completion of a Divine plan . Acts 1:4
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.”
The Purpose of The Holy Spirit’s Arrival at Pentecost: Luke 24:49
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
1. He came to transform lives. Acts 2:38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
2. He came to indwell believers. Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
3. He came to energize the church. Acts 2:46-47
A. Impacted their minds . Romans 8:6-7
B. Affected their hearts . Acts 15:8-9
C. Influenced their speech . Acts 4:31

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
