Psalm 40:1-4

We have been created to sing.  As God’s children, our theme song is the song of redemption.  Singing is evidence of our new life in Christ.

The Song of Deliverance:                                                                                                  v. 1

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

1.         Deliverance from         guilt        .                                                     Romans 8:1

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

2.         Deliverance from         temptation        .                            1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

3.         Deliverance from         punishment        .                                         2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

The Song of Purpose:                                                                                                          v. 2

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

1.                 Security        .                                                                            Exodus 33:22

When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.

2.                 Sufficiency        .                                                                2 Corinthians 3:5

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

3.                 Serenity        .                                                                            Isaiah 26:3-4

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.  4Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.

The Song of Commitment:                                                                                                v. 3-4

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.  4Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.

1.                 Worship        .                                                                               Psalm 99:5

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.

2.                 Evangelism        .                                                                         John 15:27

And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

Where there is no worship, there is no witness.  No one can live in the presence of God without reflecting the glory of God.
