John 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

“God’s purpose in bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt was to bring them into Canaan. The first generation never entered Canaan because of disobedience to the Word of God.” -Stephen Olford

THE WORD OF GOD IS OUR DIVINE SOURCE OF AUTHORITY:

1. The Word is inspired. 2 Timothy 3:16

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”

2. The Word is reliable. Isaiah 40:8

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

3. The Word is judgmental. Acts 2:37-38

“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’ Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

4. The Word is alive. 1 Peter 1:23-25

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, ‘All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.”

5. The Word is relevant. Colossians 3:16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” -Ephesians 6:17.

THE WORD OF GOD IS OUR DAILY SOURCE OF GUIDANCE:

1. Our source of spiritual light. Genesis 1:3-4

“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”

2. Our source of soul salvation. John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

3. Our source of perpetual growth. 1 Peter 2:2

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,”

4. Our source of strength. 1 John 2:14

“I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.”

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” -Colossians 1:17.

THE WORD IS OUR SOURCE OF NEVER ENDING HOPE:

1. The Word provides direction for the future. Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

2. The Word provides confidence in our eternal destination. John 14:1-3

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
