Psalm 62

David reminds us that there will be times when it will seem like there is no rest for the weary. A careful study of this passage will reveal that David is weary of hiding and can find no place of rest apart from God.

God Is Our Rock: vv. 1-6

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. 2He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him downÑ this leaning wall, this tottering fence? 4They fully intend to topple him from his lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Selah

5Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

1.         Salvation Ð deliverance from evil.

2.         Security Ð protection from the evil one.

3.         Steadfastness Ð stability in tough times.

For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done (Matthew 16:27).

God Can Be Trusted:      vv. 7-8

My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

1.         Focus inward .     Am I longing for God?

2.         Focus outward .    Am I living for God?

3.         Focus upward .    Am I looking for God?

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. 6Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy (Psalm 86:5-6).

God Will Reward His Children:          vv. 9-12

Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath. 10Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

11One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, 12and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.

1.         We must pursue God with our whole heart.  Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

2.         He will reward us with complete rest.             Matthew 11:28-30

“Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
