2 Samuel 6:17-19

David, in this passage, gives us an understanding of how we can live our worship out loud.

The Essence of Worship:          v. 17

They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord.

            1.         Through worship, we see something.                       Isaiah 6:1-3

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling to one another:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.

            2.         Through worship, we sense something.                    Isaiah 6:4-5

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5Woe to me! I cried. ÒI am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.

The Experience of Worship:     v. 18

After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty.

1.         We experience God’s love .

2.         We experience God’s peace .

3.         We experience God’s power .

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation (Psalm 95:1).

The Example of Worship:         v. 19

Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

1.         Preparation . Ecclesiastes 5:1

Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

2.         Participation .            Ephesians 5:19

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

3.         Preaching .   2 Corinthians 5:11

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praiseÐthe fruit of lips that confess his name. 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased (Hebrews 13:14-16).
