Colossians 4:2-6

TCN’s Mission

. . .is to be wholly transformed by the Spirit of Christ and to make disciples of all people.

The Mission Compels Us to Pray:                                                                                             vv. 2-3a

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message,. . .

1.   Watchful .                                                                                           Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.

2.   Thankful .                                                                                           Colossians 1:3

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,

The Mission Causes Us to Proclaim:                                                                                        vv. 3b-4

. . .so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

1.   The message of full salvation.

2.   The preparation for service .

3.   The soon return of Christ.

The Mission Challenges Us to Persuade:                                                                                   vv. 5-6

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

1.   Controlled by grace .                                                                        Ephesians 2:4-5

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions it is by grace you have been saved.

2.   Seasoned with salt .                                                                         Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

3.   Armed with spiritual weaponry .                                                         1 Samuel 17:47

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.
